MathWorks Gifts $3 Million to CARE

Contribution supports education initiatives that drive opportunities for children and women

MathWorks, the Natick-based developer of software for scientists and engineers, today announced it has gifted $3 million to CARE. The gift builds on a 13-year relationship between the organizations and will bolster multiple CARE initiatives with a special focus on education as an opportunity driver for children and women.

The support from MathWorks allows CARE to assign funding and ensure the continuation of key initiatives that improve access to and quality of education, offer innovative teaching solutions, deliver job training and mentorship for youth, and provide microfinance programs for women.  

“MathWorks actively supports programs and initiatives that offer the means for children and adults to learn, especially when that learning is the catalyst for social and economic progress,” said Jeanne O’Keefe, chief financial officer and senior vice president, MathWorks. “We’re excited to partner with CARE to help provide education and related resources to underserved communities, with a special focus on women and children, and their development as agents of positive change.”

MathWorks first partnered with CARE in 2005 after the Indian Ocean earthquake and tsunami.  Following this initial engagement in response to disaster relief, MathWorks has continued to partner with CARE based on its commitment to long-term rebuilding efforts and improvements to social infrastructure. CARE proactively works with countries to implement sustainable programs, enabling these communities to not only withstand future disasters but to improve lives, defeat poverty, and achieve social justice.
