Senior Program Manager

Job Summary

This is a technical program work management leadership role for experienced PMs who have led complex software programs across multiple engineering teams and influenced outcomes without direct authority.

As a Senior Program Manager at MathWorks, you will work on cross-functional teams and programs to develop high-quality software that accelerates the pace of engineering and science. MATLAB is a programming and numeric computing platform used by millions of engineers and scientists to analyze data, develop algorithms, and create models. In this role, you will be part of the cross-functional leadership group that charters projects and programs to achieve strategic objectives. You will partner with Engineering Managers and other technical leaders to align stakeholders, resolve ambiguity, facilitate trade-offs, and define processes and strategies that enable cross-functional teams to plan, prioritize, and execute effectively.

This role goes beyond traditional project management. Success requires the ability to lead through influence rather than direct authority, exercise strong organizational judgment, and adapt your approach based on team and stakeholder dynamics.

Responsibilities

  • Lead complex cross-functional programs involving multiple engineering teams, stakeholders, dependencies, and competing priorities.
  • Facilitate strategic and multi-release planning to create SMART plans that translate strategic objectives into clear priorities, realistic commitments, and aligned execution.
  • Identify and manage cross-team dependencies, risks, and trade-offs; drive issues to resolution and escalate appropriately when needed.
  • Influence decisions and drive action without direct authority by building credibility, understanding stakeholder perspectives, and creating alignment around shared objectives.
  • Lead continuous improvement and change initiatives by identifying root causes, designing and piloting solutions, gathering feedback, and driving adoption.
  • Evaluate team agile development practices, identify opportunities for improvement, and execute a visible plan for their achievement
  • Use qualitative and quantitative information as KPI’s to assess program health, enable sound decision-making, and communicate progress, risks, and priorities to teams and leadership.
  • Apply AI-assisted tools and workflows to improve planning, analysis, communication, and program execution, while using sound judgment to validate outputs and identify where AI can meaningfully improve team effectiveness.

Minimum Qualifications

  • A bachelor's degree and 6 years of professional work experience (or a master's degree and 3 years of professional work experience, or a PhD degree, or equivalent experience) is required.
  • Experience with Agile software development

Additional Qualifications

  • Technical degree in Engineering, Math, or Science
  • Experience in developing commercial software products
  • Ability to understand software technology; able to participate and contribute to technical conversations
  • Ability to influence others even when you do not have direct authority over them
  • Experience with Agile, Scrum, and Kanban software development methodologies
  • Experience with JIRA and Confluence
  • Experience with MATLAB Products is preferred, but not required
