Redesigning “How We Engineer” Tomorrow’s Vehicles
Andy Richardson, Jaguar Land Rover
Massive changes are underway in the fundamental architecture and engineering of cars, such as: major shifts in the types of power units, massive changes in how vehicles are used by our customers, cars that can drive themselves, the use of vehicles as communication and entertainment hubs.
Vehicles have become highly complex interdependent control systems that must fully interact with their occupants and the environment in a totally robust way. This is forcing automotive manufacturers to re-design the product engineering process driving more whole vehicle and coupled systems analysis much earlier in the design process, thus in turn, driving simulation tools, methods, processes, people, and IT hardware to new levels. At the same time, companies such as Jaguar Land Rover, are delivering more new products than ever before, offering more technology and variety to a wider global market.
This presentation describes these challenges and outlines the approach Jaguar Land Rover is taking to tackle them.
