Type-IV Wind Turbine
This is a generic model of a type-IV (i.e., full converter) wind turbine system for electromagnetic transient (EMT) studies. It is based on the work published in [1] and represents a wind turbine system with a directly-coupled (gearless) and externally excited synchronous machine. The full-converter system is composed of a six-pulse diode rectifier, a dc-dc boost converter and a two-level voltage source converter (VSC). The excitation control of the synchronous generator makes use of a buck-converter connected to the dc-link of the full-converter system.
It is a hybrid model (HM), which means that it contains a combination of average and switched equivalent circuits to represent power electronic stages, and allows simulations with a time-step of 50 µs, optimizing therefore computation time.
A short documentation file containing useful information on the model as well as two simulation examples focusing on Fault-Ride-Through (FRT) performance is included. Further details about the model can be extracted from [1].
