Estimate area from spectrogram

I generated a spectrogram of a signal and now I want to estimate the area of a certain region selected on the spectrogram.
Firstly, how can I obtain the Z component of the area selected using the function 'getline'?
Secondly, how can I calculate the area of the region selected? Should I use the function 'trapz'?

When I last looked, the spectrogram plot is actually a surf plot viewed from the top.
