Permanent Magnet DC Motor

This example shows how to verify manufacturer specifications of no-load speed, no-load current, and stall torque for a DC motor by using a test harness and Simscape™ blocks.

The model is based on a Faulhaber Series 0615 DC-Micromotor, 1.5 V variant.

For the first 0.1 seconds of simulation the motor has no external load. The speed increases to the no-load value. At 0.1 seconds a load applies stall torque to the motor shaft. The simulation results agree with manufacturer data.

When a manufacturer does not quote equivalent circuit parameters, they must be estimated from information such as no-load speed, stall torque, and efficiency. You can use a test harness such as this model to test the estimated equivalent circuit prior to using the motor model in a system simulation.
