Description

SimWise 4D is a software tool that allows the functional performance of mechanical parts and assemblies to be simulated and validated. It combines 3D multibody dynamic motion simulation with 3D finite element analysis and optimization in one powerful yet easy to use environment.

SimWise 4D functions as a standalone environment yet retains full associativity with the parent CAD system. The CAD model, all mass properties, and the assembly relationships are automatically converted into corresponding motion constraints. A rich set of modeling features, such as spring, ropes, gears, motors, and actuators make it easy to add additional model features that mock up and simulate physical systems. A powerful formula language and function builder makes it easy to specify motor functions, forces, and velocity input profiles.

Postprocessing is made easy by allowing users to create graphical and digital meters of outputs, visual force vectors, and output data to Excel. Simultaneous motion + stress and deflection analysis makes it possible to investigate all possible load scenarios in one comprehensive simulation. High-definition rendering and animation allows for the creation of photorealistic images and videos. Camera tracking, lighting, and shading add realism to productions.

Finally, the Optimization utility allows users to determine the best set of model input variables necessary to achieve a desired simulation goal. Variables can be anything such as spring constants or forces. Goals can be anything such as minimum motor torque, desired spring constant, or minimum stress. With Optimization, the user has a powerful and automated tool to help determine the best design configuration.

Simulink integrates effortlessly with SimWise Motion. A predefined block (sWPlant) can be added into Simulink to represent the mechanical system in SimWise, allowing users to simulate an entire system, including hydraulics, electronics, and controls. Simulink output variables can be connected to SimWise Motion entities and SimWise motion output values connected to Simulink inputs creating a coupled simulation. Motors, actuators, and forces can be driven by SimWise formula language, tabular data, values in an Excel spreadsheet, or a Simulink™ model co-simulating with SimWise Motion. This allows phenomena such as motor startup and spindown characteristics, variable speed actuators, and electromechanical controllers to be incorporated in the simulation model.
