I have constantly used Matlab to generate avi files from getframe in a mac. Now I cannot open those files, or newly generated ones anymore.
I am using OS X 10.6.7 with Matlab 2011 in a mac pro. I have perian (1.2.2) and VLC (1.1.10.1) and DivX player
Surprisingly in my macbook pro with the same spec, I can open them in Quitcktime 7,8 and DivX player.
In both computers, some files can be opened in VLC. However, they are usually shown not properly. Filename is added like a watermark, sometimes the color is gone and worse of all the image is sheared

I have had more problems than successes with VLC. It has been at least a year since I tried, but I gave up on it.

If you use your Mac OSX install disk and go to optional installs, you can install QuicktimePlayer 7. That still plays matlab avi's, while for whatever reason Quicktime X does not.
Just don't install divX, because that will then break Quicktime 7's ability to open Matlab avi's as well, which is why I'm searching the forums again.
