MATLAB 2012b (version 8) not starting on Windows 7?

I have installed MATLAB 2012b on my machine with OS = Windows 7 (64 bit). As the splash screen appears, a "Desktop Fatal Error" appears and it says that "Failure loading desktop class". I searched all over google and mathworks but found no answer to this. Kindly help.
