Need help creating shapes in SimMechanics

1 view (last 30 days)
I am trying to create an arch in SimMechanics. I figured out how to make one using the "Revolution" solid, however, I am trying to make a round one (i.e., like bending round tubing into an arch). I have attached a screenshot of what I have so far. Also, I have figured out how to limit the degree of rotation but is there a way to only display certain sections such as 45 degrees through 135 degrees? As opposed to 0-90 degrees for orientation purposes. Thanks in advance!

No, but you can rotate your solid by 45 degrees so that it has the desired orientation. You do this using the Rigid Transform block.

It doesn't seem like your screenshot went through. Anyways, I will try answer:
1. For the round tube, you should create a circular cross-section offset from the center. When you revolve this, it should make that "bent round tubing" shape. I've attached a really bad drawing to help.
2. The "Extent of Revolution" parameter is symmetrical. In other words, specifying 90 degrees actually gives you -45 to +45 degrees. In any case, you can then rotate the part about its Z-axis to get the right direction you want.

Sebastian,
Thanks! I will do that, I just wasn't sure if there was an easy way of creating a smooth, round cross-section since doing as shown wouldn't be smooth unless a lot of points are entered.
