combining two images together

i didnot know how to do this...i want to display an image vertically and the other horizontally....in the same figure...any way out..Thanks

Side by side or superimposed?
I = double(imread('cameraman.tif'));
figure; imshow(I+I.',[]) %superimposed
figure; imshow([I I.']); %side by side

The above answer worked fine for superimposition. But, it gave a blank image for the side by side command. Maybe because here the size of the image becomes 256*512

Probably. Pad it with zeros if you have to...

Fix for Sean's last line:
imshow([I I.'], []);
